A Truly International Field of Future Talents
The Young Riders Academy Selection 2026, held in Peelbergen the 16th and 17th March, once again brought together an outstanding group of young riders from across the world.
A total of 26 candidates took part in this year’s selection, representing different countries, backgrounds, and experiences, all united by the same ambition: to take an important step forward in their careers and become part of the YRA program.
From the very beginning, it was clear that the overall level was exceptionally high. Across the two days, the selectors saw quality, focus, determination, and a strong sense of partnership between riders and horses, confirming once again the depth of talent within the next generation of show jumping.
What the Selectors Were Looking For
Throughout the selection, the panel carefully evaluated each candidate both in the arena and during the interviews, looking beyond performance alone.
As Jens Fredricson explained:
“We look for passion and long-term goals. We want to feel that they truly want to go all the way in the sport. In the riding, we look for talent, and a smooth, modern style. It’s amazing to be here and see these riders and horses. The future of show jumping looks very promising.”
His words perfectly captured the spirit of these two days in Peelbergen, where talent and ambition were matched by a very high standard across the board.
More Than Just Performance
The Young Riders Academy has always been about more than results in the ring. It is a program built to support the long-term development of young athletes, helping them grow not only as riders, but also as professionals within the sport.
As Sven Holmberg, Sport Director, commented:
“At this stage, what matters most is not only what we see in the arena, but the overall potential of each athlete. The goal is to identify young riders who have the talent, the mindset, and the willingness to develop through every aspect of the program.”
This broader vision remains one of the defining strengths of YRA, and one of the reasons why the program continues to have such a meaningful impact on riders’ careers.
The Strength of the Next Generation
Also reflecting on the remarkable standard seen during the selection, Eleonora Ottaviani, Director of the Young Riders Academy, added:
“What stood out this year was not only the quality of the riding, but also the maturity, motivation, and professionalism shown by so many of these young athletes, confirming once again how bright the future of our sport can be.
This is exactly why our primary goal within the Young Riders Academy is not only to identify these talents, but to support them throughout their journey, helping them develop into complete athletes and professionals. We aim to provide them with the tools, the knowledge, and a constant support system to guide them in every aspect of their careers.”
Together, these impressions underline just how competitive and inspiring this year’s selection has been.
A Decision to Be Made With Great Care
Given the quality of the candidates, the final decision is one that must be approached with great care.
With such a strong field, selecting the riders who will join the next edition of the Young Riders Academy is no easy task. The high level seen throughout the selection made that clearer than ever.
