The YRA Team 2025 kicks off training with Franke Sloothaak

A powerful start to a new chapter

The Young Riders Academy Team 2025 is officially beginning its training journey today, marking the first major step of the season with an inaugural clinic led by the legendary Franke Sloothaak.
Hosted at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre, this first session represents an exciting opportunity for the newly selected riders to deepen their technical and mental approach to the sport—guided by one of the most iconic names in showjumping.

Learning from a champion

Franke Sloothaak, a celebrated figure in the equestrian world, is set to share his extensive expertise with the new group through a mix of theoretical insights and hands-on riding sessions.
The clinic will focus on building skills that go far beyond the saddle: from tackling specific exercises such as gridwork and distances, to managing mental pressure in competition and developing individual responsibility in the ring.

“For me, it’s always special to meet a new group of athletes through the Young Riders Academy. You quickly notice the areas where they still have a lot to learn or where they need to think differently. What we really try to teach is that riders should think for the horse. How can I help my horse? How can I improve him? That kind of awareness is so important for the future—learning to feel those moments, understanding what’s changing, and realizing how a change in the horse’s movement can affect what happens at the fence.” – Franke Sloothaak

“This collaboration aims to provide young equestrians with unparalleled insights into the world of competitive riding, fostering skill development and enhancing their riding techniques and understanding of the sport,”
Sven Holmberg, YRA Sport Manager

Confidence, connection and preparation

Beyond the technical aspects, this first training also marks the beginning of a journey of growth, connection, and discovery. Riders will work closely with their horses, receive personalised feedback, and engage in discussions on mindset, focus and sportsmanship.

As always, the Academy’s mission is to nurture talent, encourage excellence and prepare young riders for the challenges of international competition—both in and out of the saddle.

Looking ahead

This is just the beginning of a rich and inspiring season. The YRA Team 2025 will follow a dynamic program of training, education and international experience in the months ahead, with further sessions already on the calendar.

With great energy, promising talent and strong motivation, this new group of riders is ready to write their chapter in the YRA story.
