YRA Riders Lead Team Belgium to Victory at the EEF Series in Drammen

Drammen, Norway – June 7, 2025 Team Belgium delivered a standout performance in the EEF Series Region North Qualifier, claiming the top spot after a thrilling jump-off against hosts Norway. Of the four team members, three are current or past YRA riders: Bart Jay Junior Vandecasteele, Mathieu Guery, and Evelyne Putters, alongside Leon Brutsaert.

For all four riders, this was also their first Senior Nations Cup appearance - making the win even more remarkable.

“It’s the first time Belgium sends young riders to a three-star Nations Cup.
They are among the best in the country and strong contenders for the European Championships.”
Chef d’equipe Filip Lacus

Focused Strategy, Fierce Competition

The Belgian team started strong, finishing the first round on a perfect score. With two early clears in round two, they appeared on track for a smooth win—but faults from the final two riders meant the final decision came down to a jump-off.

It was Mathieu Guery, last to go, who secured the win with a calm and controlled clear round.

Team Reflections

“It was nice to go first. The triple combination was trickier than expected, but I like the pressure. Vamos has been really consistent lately, and I’m really looking forward to the Europeans.”
Bart Jay Junior Vandecasteele

“It was my first Nations Cup with the seniors, so I was really happy with my clear in round one. The second wasn’t perfect, but the boys came through and we got the win!”
Evelyne Putters

“My horse jumped fantastic. The second round I pushed a bit too much, but overall I’m happy. It was the first time for both of us in a Senior Nations Cup—it was a great experience.”
Leon Brutsaert

The Next Generation in Action

Designed as a launchpad for future championship riders, the EEF Series proved once again that young athletes—when given the opportunity—can rise to the highest level of competition. For the Young Riders Academy, this result is more than a victory: it's a testament to the growth, talent, and dedication of its riders. Well done, Team Belgium!
