A New Generation Steps In
The Young Riders Academy Team 2026 officially kicks off its season at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre, marking the first gathering of the newly selected riders and the beginning of a new and exciting chapter.
Over three days, the group comes together for their first clinic under the guidance of Franke Sloothaak. More than just a training session, this opening clinic represents the first real moment of connection between riders, horses, and the YRA philosophy.
It is here that individual paths begin to take shape, within an environment built on excellence, discipline, and shared ambition.
Learning From Experience
Led by Olympic Champion Franke Sloothaak, the clinic combines structured riding sessions with technical insight, focusing on developing a deeper understanding of the horse and refining each rider’s approach in the saddle.
Working in small groups, riders rotate between horses and exercises, allowing for targeted feedback and personalised progression. From flatwork to jumping exercises, the emphasis is placed on precision, feeling, and decision-making, all key elements at the highest level of the sport.
“What always stands out in the Young Riders Academy is the level. Every year you expect it to be high, but this time it really feels like something special. The quality of the riders is impressive, but what matters most is their mindset. Talent is only the starting point. What we focus on is how they think, how they adapt, and how they learn to make the right decisions for their horses.”

“The first session is fundamental because it sets the direction for everything that follows. It’s not only about how they ride, but how they understand the process, how they communicate, and how they grow as athletes. This group shows great energy and openness, which is exactly what we want to see at this stage.”

Beyond The Saddle
Alongside the riding sessions, the programme also includes targeted educational moments that reflect the Academy’s holistic approach to athlete development.
During the clinic, riders will take part in a communication session led by YRA Communications Manager Giulia Romeo, focusing on the importance of building a strong personal identity and understanding how to present themselves as professional athletes.
In addition, a dedicated talk on building a horse business, led by Zoe Osterhof, will offer valuable insight into the commercial and strategic side of the sport, an increasingly important aspect for riders aiming to compete at the highest level.
Throughout the days, individual one-to-one meetings will also take place with physio Emma O’Dwyer for physical assessment, alongside personal programme planning sessions with Valentina Ottaviani, ensuring each rider begins the season with a clear and structured direction.
Building The Season Ahead
This first clinic lays the groundwork for what promises to be a demanding and inspiring season. With a structured pathway that combines sport, education, and personal growth, the YRA Team 2026 is set to develop both inside and outside the arena.
As the riders take their first steps together in Peelbergen, one thing is already clear: the level is high, the mindset is focused, and the ambition is shared.
The journey has just begun.
